This gameday look has so much Detroit, that Tigers pride becomes Ligers love!
Today we’re delving into some Detroit history, as I stumbled across some fun facts in my Tigers research. The club played at the same ballpark from 1912 through 2000, through several expansions and name changes. Beginning with Navin Field in 1912, it expanded in 1938 and renamed Briggs Stadium, then became Tigers Stadium in 1961, which it remained until the Tigers final season there. However, before all that, the team played at Bennett Park, which was situated in the Corktown area of the city. I confess, that was a new one to me, so I read up a bit more and learned it inherited its name from the plethora of Irish immigrants who moved there from County Cork during the potato famine of the 1840’s. Interestingly enough, Corktown has also become a center for revitalization in the city, and I felt it deserved a nod with some gameday style.
Today’s look is a fabulous way to wear your Tigers pride with pieces that make a few simple team pieces on-trend as an ensemble. I was inspired by this super cute Ligers piece from a local Detroit brand, and wanted to incorporate the sweatshirt/mini trend that’s sweeping through instagram and blogs as we speak. I came across an awesome local handbag designer that worked with cork fabric, Joyful Creations, whom I had hoped to incorporate into this look, but unfortunately she only has a handful of pieces available in her etsy shop. This tiger-striped handbag tho – the perfect way to sport your Tigers pride! As I couldn’t manage to match up one of her bags, however, I found a cute cork clutch that keeps this ensemble fun, young, and modern. Then, taking inspiration from the hoarders of style influencers out there, I caved and included a super cute pair of Adidas sneakers with gold detailing to keep the look casual but still somewhat girly, and to set off the Detroit-made jewelry. The only side-note I’d add for this outfit it that I’d bring along a scarf or seat cushion if going to a day game, because those stadium seats will ROAST your thighs something fierce, not to mention the sunburn on the tops of your legs. Plan ahead, stay stylish, and comfy – RAWR!
